The First Holiday Card-1996. Cades Cove, Tennessee.
I shot this photo with my Canon AE-1, 35mm sometime around 1994 +/-. I was up at Cades Cove in 2004 and the tree that's beside the cabin (shown here) was no longer there. I just thought it'd be nice to send Holiday Cards with some GREEN in them, instead of all cold looking; so I used this in 1996 for my first card.
Holiday Card-1997. Memphis, Tennessee.
Shot with a 35mm Canon AE-1. This card incorporated some digitally prepared graphics, but was imaged to film and then double-burned onto the card along with the truck image. This was the beginning of utilizing the Model A on my cards; which turns out to be a nice gimmick. Note the use of the 4-point Cross Filter in the photo.
Holiday Card-1998. Memphis, Tennessee.
This is the first card that I was really pleased with the image and also the first where I thought it'd be smart to actually 'get in' the photo too.... since after all, it was a card from ME!
Holiday Card-1999. Memphis, Tennessee.
I had built a NON-WORKING still in the back of the truck, which LOOKED GREAT! but didn't really photo well. The first week that I moved out to Fayette County, the cover of the newspaper showed where local deputies had busted up a REAL still. So I figured it might be smart to take this one apart and destroy it. Just wished I'd gotten some good photos of it before doing that. It was pretty creative! I had incorporated a real brass trumpet into the copper tubing of the still. Pretty funny.
Holiday Card-2000. Memphis, Tennessee.
Shot with a 35mm Canon AE-1. This one was nice. I used a Soft-Focus filter (which would now be done in Photoshop).
Holiday Card-2001. Fayette County, Tennessee.
I decided to move this shot more into the autumn and try to get some reds and yellows in the shot. This one came out unexpectedly well using a bunch of weeds in the background.
Holiday Card-2002a. Fayette County, Tennessee.
Shot with a 35mm Canon AE-1. With some remnants from my old still. That whiskey barrel was shipped in from California! Note also that there's three cards for 2002. This is the first year where I tried making multi-imaged cards.
Holiday Card-2002b. Fayette County, Tennessee.
Shot with a 35mm Canon AE-1. Soft-Focus filter used.
Holiday Card-2002c. Fayette County, Tennessee.
Shot with a 35mm Canon AE-1. Wasn't real happy with this one, but some of that was due to the processes involved in its creation. This was shot on film, imaged onto paper and then scanned digitally, which was then manipulated in Photoshop, text added and then output onto disc and then back to paper. That's a LOT of bouncing around and is difficult to maintain a clear image and color clarity with all that dinking around. But this was a time of experimentation.
Holiday Card-2003a. Arlington, Tennessee.
Shot with a 35mm Canon AE-1. I ended up with two cards this year! They came out so well, that I just couldn't make my mind up! I drove out to an old hardware store in Arlington which is over in Shelby County for these shots.
Holiday Card-2003b. Arlington, Tennessee.
This building reminded me of construction methods back home. Being from east Tennessee where Conventional foundation construction is most common instead of the Slab foundation found mostly down here. This could have easily been a General Store back home 30-40 years ago! (Just before the advent of the 7-11s.)
Holiday Card-2004. Fayette County, Tennessee.
Shot with a 35mm Canon AE-1 and Soft-focus filter. I originally shot this in 2003 where my garden had been, and had planned to use the scarecrow since back in the spring. This time, the film was given to the processor and they scanned the image and returned a digital file to me where I then manipulated in Photoshop returning a digital file for paper output. This method worked much better than previous experiments.
Holiday Card-2005. Fayette County, Tennessee.
This is the very first all digital card. Borrowed my friend's Canon 10D, set it up on a tripod and spent about 30 minutes changing and running around like an Idget! Quality was very good and I was happy with this method. O.k. At this point, I am convinced that digital photography IS capable of a strong quality image (which it HAS been for awhile... but finding an equal OUTPUT method has been a nightmare!). Next purchase: DIGITAL CAMERA!

Hot off the press! Shot this with MY new, Canon 20D, digital camera at DeWitt-Spain Airport... guess what I've been doing in my spare time?!
Holiday Card-2007. Eads, Tennessee.
Canon 20D. Guess what I've been doing in my spare time?!
Holiday Card-2008. Shelby County, Tennessee.
Canon 20D.
Holiday Card-2010. Herb Parsons Lake, TN.
Nikon D5. Does anyone remember the 1960's show: Petticoat Junction? For some reason this shot reminds me of the opening title for that show...
Seriously!...... Isn't that funny?
